The Greek word “scoliosis” means curvature The term scoliosis is derived from the Greek word “scolios” meaning “curvature” and was coined by the Greek physician Galen of Pergamon (130 –200 A.D.). Nowadays, it is used to describe a specific clinical condition consisting of lateral deviations of the spine associated with vertebral rotation.
